Service · Private & local AI

Private AI that runs on hardware you own.

Some files should never leave your office: client records, financial statements, patient information, legal matters. Private AI means running language models on a workstation or small server inside your business, so sensitive work is processed where the data already lives. We design, install and support local AI for business, and we're honest about where the cloud is still the better choice.

What it is

Local AI for business, in plain terms.

Several AI developers publish "open-weight" language models: the trained model itself can be downloaded and run on your own computer. With the right hardware, usually a workstation with a capable graphics card (GPU) or a small server, that model can read, summarize, extract and draft without sending anything to an outside AI service.

We set up the machine, choose and install the models that fit your work, connect them to your file shares and business systems, and lock down who can use them. This is sometimes called on-premise AI. The result is an assistant that works on your most sensitive files, on your network.

    How it fits

The model comes to the data.

With cloud AI, your documents travel to someone else's servers to be processed. With private AI, the model sits inside your network, next to the files, email and accounting data it works on. Results go back into the same systems.

    • Runs on-premises, on a machine your business owns
    • Access controlled by your existing accounts and permissions
    • Activity logged, so you can see who asked what, and when

    Use cases

What private AI is good at.

Local models do their best work on focused, repeatable tasks with your own documents. These are the uses we recommend most.

    Summarizing client files

A long client history, a medical record or a stack of correspondence condensed into a one-page summary before a meeting or a review.

    Drafting from internal documents

First drafts of letters, engagement summaries and reports, built from your templates and the facts in the file, ready for a person to edit and approve.

    Searching company knowledge

Ask a question in plain English and get an answer drawn from your procedures, past work and policies, with links to the source documents.

    Extracting from sensitive documents

Tax forms, intake packets, bank statements and medical forms read and turned into structured data, with uncertain fields flagged for review.

    Meeting notes and transcripts

Recorded consultations transcribed and summarized on the same machine, so the conversation never leaves the office.

    Redacting before sharing

Names, account numbers and identifiers removed locally, so a cleaned version can safely go to a cloud tool or an outside party.

    Honest trade-offs

Private AI vs. cloud AI: what you give up.

Local AI isn't the right answer for everything. Here is how it compares, without the sales pitch. For a deeper comparison, read local AI vs. cloud AI.

    Capability
The largest cloud models are generally stronger at complex reasoning, long open-ended writing and broad general knowledge. Open-weight models that fit on one machine are very capable at focused tasks, but they are not equal across the board.
    Cost structure
Cloud AI is usually billed by usage, so costs rise with volume. Local AI shifts most of the cost to hardware you buy up front, plus electricity and maintenance. Which costs less depends on how much you use it.
    Maintenance
A cloud service is maintained for you. A local system needs updates, security patches, backups and occasional model upgrades. We can do this as ongoing support, or hand it to your IT provider.
    Speed and scale
One machine serves a limited number of people at once. For a small team it is plenty; for heavy, simultaneous use, the hardware has to be sized for it.
    Data control
This is where local wins. Files are processed on hardware you control, under your own access rules, and nothing goes to an outside AI service unless you decide it should.

    The hybrid approach

Local where it matters, cloud for the rest.

Most businesses don't need to choose one. We set up routing rules you approve, so each task goes to the right model automatically.

    stays local

    Sensitive work

Anything with client identities, health details, financial records or privileged material is processed by the model on your hardware.

    goes to cloud

    Everything else

Marketing copy, general research, public website content and complex reasoning on non-sensitive material can use a more capable cloud model.

    in between

    Cleaned first

When a task needs the cloud but starts with sensitive material, the local model can strip names and identifiers before anything is sent.

    How we build it

Sized to your work, locked down by default.

A private AI system is part hardware, part software and part policy. We handle all three, and you own the result.

    1. 01

Assess the work and the rules

We look at the documents involved, who needs access and the privacy requirements you operate under, together with your compliance advisor or IT provider.

    2. 02

      Test models on your tasks

We run candidate open-weight models against real examples of your work and show you the results before recommending one.

    3. 03

      Specify the hardware

We recommend a workstation or small server sized to the models and the number of users. Your business buys and owns it.

no hardware is bought until the tests pass
    4. 04

      Install and lock down

Models, access controls, logging and backups are set up, and the machine is restricted to the network connections it needs.

    5. 05

      Connect and train

We connect it to your file shares and systems, then train your team on what it does well and when to check its work.

    6. 06

      Support and upgrade

Updates, monitoring and model upgrades as better open-weight models are released, or a clean hand-over to your IT provider.

    Compliance

    Careful about what we claim.

Running AI locally keeps data on hardware you control, which removes the risk of sending files to an outside AI service. It does not make a business compliant on its own. We design systems with HIPAA and other privacy requirements in mind, document how data is handled, and work alongside your compliance advisor or IT provider rather than replacing them.

    FAQ

    Private AI questions.

Is local AI as capable as the big cloud AI services?

Not for every task. The largest cloud models are generally stronger at complex reasoning and long, open-ended writing. Open-weight models that run on a single workstation handle focused tasks well, such as summarizing, extracting fields, drafting from templates and answering questions about your own documents. We test on your real tasks before recommending either.

    What hardware do we need?

Usually a workstation with a capable graphics card (GPU), or a small server for larger teams. The right size depends on the models, the number of people using it and how quickly responses need to come back. We recommend specific hardware after the audit, and your business owns it.

Does local AI make us HIPAA compliant?

No system makes a business compliant on its own. Keeping data on hardware you control removes one category of risk: sending files to an outside AI service. We design systems with HIPAA and privacy requirements in mind and work alongside your compliance advisor or IT provider on the rest.

Who maintains a private AI system?

Someone has to apply updates, watch performance and upgrade models over time. We can handle that as ongoing support, or document everything so your IT provider can take it over. Either way, the system and its documentation belong to you.

Can we use local and cloud AI together?

Yes, and for many businesses that is the best fit. A hybrid setup sends sensitive work to the local model and everything else to a cloud model, using routing rules you approve. Some setups also remove names and identifiers locally before anything is sent out.
